Shoveling and blowing snow

these are pictures of the person using the snow blower, and the photographer was using a shovel and is not in the image. it was not easy getting the darn blower started, but once it was going things went easier. the snowplow was able to fill in the end of the drive with a HUGE mound of packed snow so it was quite a chore to clear that. winter can be such fun. we did need the moisture....we keep assuring ourselves.

a couple of views from inside this time. the near one is the early clearing of snow on the front walk. the other is the overhanging snow on the front eaves with conor and ian trying to clear the drive at their house.

Now this is winter!

first off, we are recovered from the crud and are doing quite nicely. cough cough. well almost recovered anyway. today marks the return of winter and these are good pictures of the story. it has been sleeting, snowing, and blowing off and on all day, and supposed to change to just snow this evening. we went out and shoveled an hour or so ago and it is drifted in so as to cover the signs of our labors already. the weather people have predicted 12+ inches, and i don't know that we will get there but it is a real midwestern snowstorm so that's enough. it's really our first taste of this kind of weather for the season. a good time to stay inside and have a bowl of soup and some sourdough bread. yum.

Icky sickies

since i returned from tucson, i've had some icky kind of upper respiratory/sinus infection and being a generous sort have managed to share it with don. we both seemed to be recovering, me with drugs (of course) and don without (of course.) don taught his class this week, and yesterday went to lunch with a friend. today he is more congested, taking naps and generally not feeling up to par at all. hot lemonade has returned to the menu. it does seem comforting and relieves the achiness and some congestion, but certainly not all. hopefully tomorrow will be a good day again. this is getting pretty tiresome. for sure. we are not having fun yet.
altho, just think what we were doing just a year ago. we were in a packing frenzy, trying to get all cupboards cleared and the contents packed away prior to demo-lition.......it began on the 21st! it is so gorgeous now, and so worth it! :)

Gallery vist

this evening i went to the gallery where i left some work a couple of weeks ago. a friend is having a trunk show this weekend so it was a good excuse to check on things. i was delighted to see that the owner had displayed my work in the glass case by the cash register at the rear of the gallery. she said i might notice that she had put me up front and center.....she really did. the pieces were all arranged together and probably more attractively than i usually do it myself. i was really pleased. she is obviously glad to have me as part of the gallery, so that's pretty sweet.
it will be fun to see what happens, and i am sure i will be relieved when the first sale happens. this whole gallery thing has made me nervous - apprehensive and in a flutter of self doubt for years. i guess this is the giant leap of faith, so i need to think positive until i have concrete proof that i should feel otherwise. positive positive positive. :)

Tucson Gem Show

just back from a week in tucson. it was a bit wild in the arrangement area, but otherwise a good trip. it's hard to explain to someone if they haven't been there. it's so big, so vast, so spread-out, so stimulating that it just grabs you and gets you filled with ideas and makes you eager to get back to creativity. there is every kind of gem, fossil, rock and tchotsky you can or maybe can't imagine. i love it.
the other great part is seeing old friends and meeting new ones.....going out to dinner etc. every day we would meet up with someone and had lots of good conversations. i felt so much more secure about driving this year.....last year i felt overwhelmed a lot of the time. this time things that totally baffled me in '06 were just a snap. whew. we had a lovely evening with good friends lee, bill and shush.....and i didn't need to call for help this time. drove right to their house. yea!
i got some black coral and some stick pearls and various flavors of briolettes, some yummy seed beads and a gorgeous beaded east indian belt. i have been sketching collars this evening, and probably need to get to it.
i talked to susan this evening, and they will probably come by some time this weekend. it will be good to see them and show them the finished product.
