Keeping busy

today has seemed busy. i am continuing to work on removing wallpaper and the remaining glue from the bathroom walls.
diane called this morning and brought two pictures for me to look at and help her decide which would be the best entry in a national camera contest. she is hoping for the winners' prize of $100 gift certificate which it appears is possible. it's a beautiful image of a red bud branch. quite lovely.....exceedingly spring-like.
we went to minikahda for dinner with lee and bill. exceptionally delicious food and so good to have them home again!

Foxes in the suburbs

today i went to st paul with a friend and visited the acc show. it was fun, and as always, i saw a lot of old friends there. a lot of talk about the demise of the mn crafts council which is never fun, but it's the real world, so you deal.
when i got home don mentioned the diane had discovered a fox den in their backyard and she was very excited.
soon the phone rang and gary invited us to their house to see the SIX pups. i grabbed my camera and away we went. they were all under an evergreen, and you could see them moving around. when they tumbled out from under mom fox shooed them back under the tree. we thought she could see us up in the window and was a bit nervous, although she stayed where she was. eventually she brought them out and they tumbled and played and even had a little lunch. my brother, the fox man said that a litter of six was definitely the high side of normal. we have had litters in the neighborhood the past 3 years of just 4 pups, so this is great to see them again. we plan to send messages about all the rabbits across the street in our yard. i plan to try to get more pictures as they grow.

SNOW!?

i know it's not really too late for snow, but it feels like it's too late for snow. we have been told to expect 2-4 inches overnight and the possibility of another 1-3 inches tomorrow. then we were told that the snow wouldn't be any closer than about 30 miles south of us. i got a call around 5 from friends about 35 miles south with whom i planned to bead tomorrow. the word was that the snow had started there and we should reschedule for next week. that was a relief as i had begun a fret routine as to whether i should attempt the drive in the morning or not.
it has been spitting snow off and on all day, and toward evening it has been coming down regularly, but not sticking to anything.....just appearing on the ground and deck as if we were receiving rain. just recently though, i noticed that the lawn is getting white. i doubt if we get the previously predicted inches, but the rain is welcome. the lawn and garden will appreciate it. we are still just in the budding phase with trees, a few protected very early bulbs are blooming and some hosta are showing points of leaves above ground. i guess it's lucky that fruit and nut trees are not blooming, and bulbs are later as they might not survive the cold weather we've been having.
all this is reminding me of a few craftsmen at regency shows that occurred on snowy weekends in april. sigh.

Chinese goodies

for some reason the cooking bug got me today. actually i was bitten in the store on friday, and purchased some veggies to use in a chinese meal. i made shrimp egg rolls with ginger, hot and sour soup and pork and snow pea stir fry with napa cabbage. it was all yummy, but it would have been nice to have some extra hands available for making the egg rolls etc. it was all pretty tasty and the good news in that there are leftovers for a further treat later in the week.
the other thing that i am just realizing as i type is that i FORGOT TO TAKE PICTURES. duh next time!

It feels like we are going backwards!

they have been predicting snow today, but we have had rain. i just looked out toward the deck, and it's blowing and the white stuff has appeared. i doubt if it amounts to much, but do we really need this??

It's beginning to smell sour

i got the sourdough starter out of the refrigerator today and took a sniff. it's beginning to smell like sourdough now.....before it had a clean yeasty smell. this could really happen.....i think i will try to make a loaf of bread toward the end of the week.
