Horseback ride at Ft Rob

these photos were left out of the first group of ft rob images....i somehow didn't download them to the computer. things happen. things don't happen. sigh. the riders are gene, brian, kari, kelsey, jewlee and patrick. horses seem a lot taller when you are up in the saddle, but everyone hung in there and had a good ride. kelsey was a star....the shortest person on a tall horse. good job kels!!
the first pictures are in the corral as everyone is getting their assignment and then sitting on their horses waiting for the start of the ride. the group in the distance is our gang heading off into the buttes.

Ft Rob clouds

these are the ominous clouds that thankfully didn't develop into a storm that would have meant more adventure than any of us wanted!!

Ft Robinson!

this is a whole load of photos of our trip to northwestern nebraska and ft rob. there were things to do for all ages....a long horse ride, a pony ride and a ride on a stagecoach. we could eat in our sizeable dining rooms, and each family took turns cooking. there was also a nice restaurant with buffalo burgers and steaks and a tasty salad bar. some took off for the nearby golf course and some enjoyed a beer or two. it was a great success from all reports!

i haven't blogged about our reunion at ft rob, but i plan to....really.
this is today's news. we had a visitor this morning, sitting on the concrete thing when don looked out the window. when i arose somewhat later, she was already in a bucket and pretty darn upset with the person who placed her there. the spade with which she was bucketed was out of her sight on the picnic table. i'm sorry i missed the early morning photo, but i caught several of her in the bucket in the backyard.i guess i should confess at this time that we really did not want her to dig up our yard or garden to lay her eggs. call me unkind to incipient motherhood, but that's the facts.
as i mentioned she was pretty upset, and became more so. i suggested putting her and her bucket into the wheel barrow, and then we both proceeded along, me with the wheel barrow, don walking along side. i had the barrow because of my lesser stature and ability to keep it more level, so the bucket remained upright. she was becoming visibly more upset, opening and closing her mouth (the snapper) and finally just holding it open. if she was a meow-er this was similar to mikey losing his m's when he was stressed
we kept going along the frontage road and then down the hill toward the lake to the well house. we carefully removed the bucket from the barrow to avoid being snapped and then tipped the bucket to let her go. she still looked pretty unhappy with us, but relieved to be horizontal instead of vertical.
