the remaking of a kitchen

we went to a chinese new year party on saturday night. we've been previously and it's always fun. the deal is everyone brings their chopping board and knife and gets to work. the menu includes egg rolls, pot stickers, ham fried rice, bacon chicken wraps, barbecue pork, szechuan shrimp and various purchased dessert treats. i confess that i took my equipment, but i didn't chop.....i served, i hassled and i washed dishes. surely enough???
it's a good way to catch up with old friends and to meet some new people that i'd like to see again.

aha, now with permission i can post david's photo of the little bump on my blog. it's still pretty small, but it's pretty exciting! we all seem to be smiling.......a lot.

i'm watching the festivities leading up to the inauguration. it's always so impressive, but finally it's also making me feel joyful. it's been a long sad eight years, and the hope of this one feels quite wonderful.

today feels significantly warmer to me. i haven't been outside much, but still the house even feels warmer with the thermostat reading the same. the snow is beautiful and the flakes increase and decrease, but there are lovely large flakes throughout.

holey buckets! we're having a heatwave! we got home a bit ago, and i just checked the outdoor thermometer. it's 10 degrees.....ABOVE! woohoo.
we had takeout chinese with our across the street neighbors this evening, and we were in the dining room looking at something when i saw a fox go running by the window. the current plan is to somehow lure the fox across the street into our yard and eliminate a few of the 3 gazillion bunnies that seem to be thriving there! the good news is they have been nibbling away on a bush that i would love to eliminate. the bad news is they are probably nibbling on something i really want to keep. nature. rules. bring on the foxes.

i have to admit that after teasing the visiting californians about their thin blood, i have become a wuss. today which began at -22 was just too much. i took a neighbor to lunch for her birthday then came home and sat in the chair in which david is pictured. i used the same banky, sat in front of the fire and read a book. i cannot believe that it is continuing to be so darn cold. they are predicting -24 tonight. when it was -9 at one point today they cheerily mentioned that would be a -27 windchill. simply ridiculous!
