Martin Luther King Day

we had snow last evening, with about 3 inches on the ground this morning. it is all white and beautiful again......a little slippery on our street, but the main roads are clear and great for driving.
the library had a martin luther king presentation this afternoon, about 30 in attendance, a different group from the great decisions regulars. interesting that.
julie landsman was the presenter and she is the author of several books, the one mentioned today was white teacher talks about race. she had taught in the mpls schools for over 25 years, mostly in north side schools and for her last several years, with kids needing help. a great speaker with a great understanding of people. she spoke for 45 minutes and led a dialogue for another 45 when she had to stop to be interviewed by npr for "all things considered." our community is pretty white bread so her talk was very intriguing to me and made me realize again how little i know and much i have to learn. i'd go some distance to hear her talk again. she teaches at the college level now and works with teachers on how to reach kids. she told some amazing tales. i'm so glad there are people like her out there.
