progress is happening. i am very pleased with the look of the new siding in front. paneling vs diamonds: the former wins hands down!

the kazoos arrived earlier this week. they are pretty cute.....lots of colors! i hope we all have fun with them at the y camp. i'm getting excited to be there and see everyone. we still haven't figured out our schedule as yet. we have a slight excuse in that the painter just may be able to do our house before we leave. that will be a treat for sure. it NEEDS it!
we are trying to do a few things to get the yard under control. a constant battle i might add. there is always something growing where it shouldn't as we try to encourage the things we really want to grow in the same spot. go figure! my grass planting on the other side of the fence seems to be paying off a bit.....there is actually green appearing in the midst of all the dirt there. yea!

we have actually chosen a painter and he will probably paint the house in early july before we go to estes. we went paint shopping and chose some paint that is taupe, but with brown tones and a lighter shade for the soffit. we decided to eliminate the trellis piece that is on the front porch....we may put one post in there, but then again maybe we won't! the other big decision is getting rid of the diamonds that shout 50's on the front of the house. we will put in panels that are similar to those on the front porch and by the front windows.
the bummer today was the city mechanical inspector refusing to ok the installation of the furnace and a/c. the pvc pipe for exhaust that they installed across the length of the basement to the north from the furnace (instead of using the chimney) is 2" and according to code and the furnace specs it needs to be 3 ". aaaack. we await word on when they will return to change that. good grief!

no big exciting progress on things today. i managed to use 3 paint brushes doing some touch-up work in the bathroom, mostly the ceiling, but covering some other areas that seemed to be broadcasting WHITE PAINT! i think it looks better, at least at night with artificial lighting....we shall see in the morning. i also painted the patch in the ceiling around the transformer for the new track in the hallway. i had primed it before we began the project so today i used the ceiling paint from the kitchen/dining area. not sure it is the perfect color, but it's certainly better than the primer! i used the third brush to repaint the spots in the bathroom i'd painted with DUH! ceiling paint. don't know what i was thinking....well i had used that color for woodwork in the kitchen etc.....but not the matte that we used on the ceiling. i seemed to momentarily forget that we used the same paint on the walls, ceiling and trim in the bathroom. anyway.....now it's repainted. egads.

we are really, almost, well, close, getting there, not much more to do.............ready to say, it's done! does that sentence sound like i'm not ready to say FOR SURE? well, yeah. we drug the humongous ladder up the stairs yesterday and don worked on edges with a brush from the top of the stairs and i worked from the top of the ladder. still amazes me that i can do that. that height thing is just GONE. don then worked his way on down the stairs with the brush getting all the top and bottom margins painted while i used the roller and covered the rest of the space with that.....it really needs that second coat, and that will probably happen tomorrow.
we finally picked up the bench from the store with the help of a neighbor's suv, and it is BIG. i suspect it will return to the store. it's too tall or something, but it's sad as the design works as does the color of the upholstery. it's hard to tell scale in a store with high ceilings and huge spaces. this one's disappointing, but we can really live without a bench. the other new things are great in the rooms.....so think positive i say.
is it finally time to consider shopping for christmas gifts?
